How do I replace the flex ribbon cable (for the Home button) on the iPhone 3G? [closed]

Hi, my iPhone 3G is no longer under warrany and my Home button no longer works. I've managed to open the phone, but the flex ribbon cable seems to be covered by hard plastic on the body of the phone. Does anyone know the best way to replace the cable so I can restore functionality to my Home button?
